How Nicorette® Lozenge works

Nicorette® Lozenges are a form of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) that can help ease cravings when you stop smoking to boost your chances of quitting.

Cravings are the main symptom of withdrawal, as your body misses the nicotine it was absorbing from cigarettes. While cravings can pass, Nicorette® Lozenge can help you handle situations that trigger cravings, along with times of the day when you can’t or don’t want to smoke.

So, how do they work? Like most NRT products, Nicorette® Lozenges provide your body with a low-level dose of nicotine to relieve your cravings – without the tar, carbon monoxide and toxic chemicals found in tobacco smoke. As the lozenge dissolves, nicotine is released into your body through the lining of your mouth.

You may start to feel the craving subside, but you won’t have the same ‘buzz’ you get from smoking a cigarette.

We offer two strengths of Nicorette® Lozenge depending on your current smoking levels:

  • 2mg Lozenge – Suitable if you smoke 20 cigarettes or less per day. Available in Nicorette® Lozenge.

  • 4mg Lozenge – Suitable if you smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day. Only available in Nicorette® Lozenge.

How to use Nicorette® Lozenge

Always read the packaging and leaflet for full instructions/ information before use. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not exceed the maximum daily dose.

Use a Nicorette® Lozenge in place of cigarettes when needed. This could be to calm your cravings while trying to quit or on those occasions where you’re unable to smoke – such as on the train, around children or at work.

If you’re struggling to stop smoking, you should replace as many cigarettes as possible with the lozenge to help motivate you to quit.

Here’s a step by step guide to how to use Nicorette® Lozenges:

1. Push and lift the button on your dispenser to open.

2. Place one lozenge in your mouth and allow it to dissolve.

3. Move the lozenge from one side of your mouth to the other.

4. Repeat periodically until the lozenge is completely dissolved. Do not chew or swallow the lozenge.

The number of lozenges you use each day will vary depending on the type of cigarettes you’re used to, their strength and how many you smoked a day. Most smokers take between 8 to 12 lozenges per day. Just make sure you don’t take more than 15 lozenges in one day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most people take between 8 and 12 Nicorette® Lozenges per day to help keep nicotine cravings at bay. You should not take more than 15 lozenges per day.

As soon as you feel ready, you should start to reduce the number of lozenges you use until you have stopped taking them completely. This could be after a few weeks or a few months.

Reviews

Nicotine is an addictive substance, which makes quitting smoking (and vaping) so difficult. Nicorette also contains nicotine but is designed specifically to fight craving as you reduce to quit tobacco/nicotine. We believe that being free of both tobacco and nicotine is the best quitting outcome, so we do not encourage use of our products unless it is within the context of quitting (including reducing prior to quitting). If you have a concern or an issue with ongoing use of Nicorette, please contact Nicorette Customer Services or speak directly to your GP/HCP for further guidance.
